One naughty little jewish girl here too. Not only do I have the tattoos (that my grandmother hates) but I also married a scottish man.

I've always loved bacon and especially BBQ'ed pork. Now when my jewish friends jokingly chastise me for eating it, I just smile and reply, "Its ok - my husband is Methodist". It gets a laugh anyway. But more to the point...why should I make excuses for my love of pork?

Then there are the horrors of being tattoo'd.

I have two and planning another.

    Others?

thats the one thing i wont do even tho i want to (tattoo)

but recently i moved from Buffalo NY to Austin TX. kept kosher til highschool and actually went to hebrew school for 9 years prior. i remember sneaking pepperonni at my aunts house (my mother converted) and being amazed by the greasy flavor.
but down here there are so many new pig flavors. babyback ribs, bacon egg and cheese breakfast tacos (toquitos) it's a little rediculous. oh and McGriddles. good lord those things are amazing

Yeah, no Jewish cemetaries for me and my tattoos either. I'm not exactly sure when the last time I ordered a pizza or a burger without bacon on it. And did anyone else get a bar/bat mitzvah just for the payoff?

Atheist Jew! that just opens up the can of worms whether you consider being Jewish to be a religion or a race. That being said, I am also an Atheist Jew. I just get questions from friends about it and end up with judaism being a cultural identity and not necessarily religion, but even that seems kind of hollow or not quite descriptive enough. what do you think? new thread? different tribe? should I stick to the bacon?

thats a big issue you opened here jess....an issue im struggling with for 15 years now....i dunno if it deserves a new thread, a new tribe or a new book...

all i can say is that for me, coming from an atheist house in israel, judaism is more of a cultural thing,a tradition, but not a belief.

religion for me is something people needed before there were rules and science to make things clear.
we dont need religion anymore.so all thats left is culture and tradition, which is a positive thing, it helps us remember who we are and where we come from.but nothing more then that.

jews are not a race though, thats for sure(reaserches say so).

Wait a minute..."science and rules"...I think I'd rather have a relationship with the mysteries of the universe that cannot be explained or legislated.

Naughty jewgrrrl (Israeli born) here who loves Bacon on her matzo.

                    Shalom all!

My brother shot a documentary that I was in, recently. Part of it involved me interviewing another dyke at a queer synagogue in San Francisco, with my dog Eli(jah) at my side.

Two dykes and a dog in a synagogue? Would have seemed impossible to me as an Israeli kid. Oye!

I wish I could tell you that we ate bacon during the interview, but alas that didn't happen.

Heh, you think being an athiest jew is hard to explain, try being an arabic jew. I've had people tell me "arabic jew? that doesn't exist!" I guess I'm a figment of someone's imagination then...

I'm Lebanese American, being jewish doesn't make me not arabic. But then, sephardic jews have been pretty much ignored for a long time so it's not surprising that the concept of being both an arab and a jew would be hard to grasp.

I don't really much care to try to pick apart what is race, what is culture, what is religion... what's the point other than politics. However people want to identify themselves is cool with me.
